Growing up, we had a computer in the house as far back as I can remember. This was the early days of the internet becoming popular residentially, and it was an escape similar to books where you'd be teleported into another world. It didn't matter who you were or how old you were, all were welcome.
I lived online, playing MMOs and lurking message boards, dabbling in programming as a kid but not fully understanding what the cryptic keywords meant.
My circle of friends in meat-space was limited, but there was always someone online to chat with regardless of which hour of day it was.
