Childhood

2023-10-15

I was raised by a pack of computers.
In dark and cold caves we slept, awoke, and slept again,
far below the surface of civilization where only monitor-light could pierce.
Such cycles carried the rhythm of their own time
and I was but a wanderer, exploring the vast richness of my wilderness.

From the author

Growing up, we had a computer in the house as far back as I can remember. This was the early days of the internet becoming popular residentially, and it was an escape similar to books where you'd be teleported into another world. It didn't matter who you were or how old you were, all were welcome.

I lived online, playing MMOs and lurking message boards, dabbling in programming as a kid but not fully understanding what the cryptic keywords meant.

My circle of friends in meat-space was limited, but there was always someone online to chat with regardless of which hour of day it was.
