In the emptiness of space, there are bubbles.

The chaotic quantum nature of the universe stirs.

With infinite time, there are infinite possibilities.

The fields overlap, adding and subtracting from each possibility.

Looking for something stable.

Looking for self reflection.

From the author

Drawing inspiration from the Boltzmann brain thought experiment, I wanted to end the story with a loop. Answering both how it started, and how it will never end. Infinity outlasts even the gods.

The idea behind it is, as long as there's random motion and enough time, particles will take on all possible positions. One of those, by chance, is a working human brain. Each thought and synapse firing will also take place, although not necessarily in the same order the brain imagines itself experiencing them. This idea, of the observer's time being different from the universe's time was the keystone idea in Permutation City.
